Marisa Canales is an outstanding Mexican flautist who has had a remarkable international career. Latin Grammy nominee and founder of the music label Urtext Digital Classics, she has performed as a soloist with prestigious orchestras in Mexico, the United States and Europe. She recorded the Concierto Caribeño that Lalo Schifrin composed for her with the London Symphony. Committed to contemporary music, she has commissioned and premiered more than 50 works, 30 of which have been dedicated to her by composers from our continent.
Jaime Márquez is an outstanding Mexican classical guitarist. He has developed a remarkable career as an international concert performer, appearing in concert halls in the Americas, Europe and Asia. He has made recordings for labels such as Urtext Digital Classics and has premiered works by important contemporary composers. His deep knowledge of the repertoire, his musicality and excellent technique have made him one of the most renowned Mexican classical guitarists of his generation.
About the Composer:
Ernesto García de León is a prominent Mexican composer and guitarist born in Jáltipan, Veracruz, in 1952. He studied guitar at the Escuela Nacional de Música de la UNAM and has taken advanced courses with renowned teachers such as Alberto Salas, Oscar Ghiglia, Leo Brouwer and Manuel Barrueco. He has participated as a performer and composer in numerous festivals in Mexico, the United States, Cuba, Italy and Spain, and his music has been performed by leading guitarists from all over the world.
García de León has written more than 80 works and has more than 30 CDs of his music. He has been honoured at various festivals and has received recognition for his outstanding career in the composition, teaching and dissemination of guitar music. He is currently a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and teaches guitar and chamber music at the Escuela Superior de Música del Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes.
